  • 2 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
  • 1 egg beaten egg
  • 1 onion finely diced onion
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 3 tbsp butter (salted or unsalted)
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour (for thickening gravy)
  • 2 cups beef broth (low sodium preferred)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 onion sliced onion
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Method
 

  1. Mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, salt, and pepper; form into patties.
  2. Brown patties in skillet, then set aside.
  3. Sauté sliced onions in butter, add flour, then whisk in broth and cream to make gravy.
  4. Nest patties in gravy, cover, and bake at 350°F for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake 15 more.
  5. Rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use leaner beef for a healthier option or adjust seasoning to taste.
