Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 1.5 cups warm water 105-115°F
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
Boiling
  • 4 quarts water
  • 0.25 cup honey or malt syrup
Optional
  • Everything bagel seasoning Optional

Method
 

  1. Combine flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
  2. Add warm water and oil; mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Gently fold in the blueberries.
  5. Let rise for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down dough and divide into 8 pieces.
  7. Shape each piece into a bagel.
  8. Cover and let rest for 10-15 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  10. Boil water with honey or malt syrup.
  11. Boil bagels for 1 minute per side.
  12. Place bagels on a baking sheet.
  13. Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning (optional).
  14. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  15. Let cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

For a crispier crust, brush the bagels with an egg wash before baking.
