Classic Lasagna

Ingredients
  

Noodles and Pasta
  • 9 pieces lasagna noodles
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 piece onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cans (6 ounces each) tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Cheese Mixture
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg egg
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook noodles, then set aside.
  2. Cook onion and garlic in olive oil, add beef and brown. Mix in tomatoes, paste, herbs, salt, and pepper; simmer 30 mins.
  3. Mix ricotta, egg, and salt. Layer sauce, noodles, ricotta, and cheese in baking dish. Repeat layers.
  4. Top with remaining cheese, cover with foil, bake 25 mins. Remove foil, bake 25 mins more until bubbly and golden.
  5. Let cool 15 mins before slicing and serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, let the lasagna rest before serving.
