Ingredients
  

Dry ingredients
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Wet ingredients
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
Filling and topping
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch pans.
  2. Mix dry ingredients, then add eggs, milk, oil, vanilla. Stir in boiling water.
  3. Divide batter into pans and bake 30-35 minutes. Cool completely.
  4. Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
  5. Layer cake with whipped cream and strawberries, then frost and garnish.

Notes

Use fresh strawberries for best flavor and texture.
